Barnsley: Adam Hammill ready for ‘scary’ Sheffield Wednesday front line

Adam Hammill says Barnsley are ready for the challenge of facing Sheffield Wednesday’s ‘scary’ front line.

The Reds welcome Wednesday to Oakwell this lunchtime with winger Hammill pointing out the threat posed by forwards Jordan Rhodes, Fernando Forestieri, Steven Fletcher and ex-Barnsley hot shot Sam Winnall.

He added: “They pose a massive threat, you’ve just got to look at their strike force.

“It’s a scary front four, you’ve just got to look at the options they’ve got coming off the bench.

“Most of them could play in the Premier League if they haven’t already.

“They’ve got a lot of quality, but we never shy away from a challenge.”

Today’s game will be the first time Barnsley have come up against Winnall, who netted 48 goals in 115 appearances for the Reds.

Hammill insists friendships will be put to one side as Barnsley look to stop the striker.

He joked: “Sam who?

“It’ll be interesting. Obviously it’s been a long while since I’ve seen him.

“He did absolutely tremendously when he was here, a great lad a great player.

“Unfortunately he’s wearing the wrong colour now and it’s our job, by any means possible, to not let him score.

“We’ve got to be committed to all our jobs.”

Hammill was sent off in the reverse fixture after a clash with Wednesday’s Sam Hutchinson.

And the 29-year-old says he will use what he feels was an injustice as motivation.

“For me there’s an extra incentive because in the last game I was sent off, which I don’t think was warranted,” he said.

“It just adds fuel to the fire, I’ve got more to prove and I can’t wait.”
