A police investigation is under way following an arson attack at a cannabis factory in a Doncaster house.
No-one was in the property in Regent Street, Balby, at the time of the blaze - but neighbours’ homes had to be evacuated as a precaution as firefighters battled to stop the fire from spreading.
A spokesman for South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said the neighbours included a young woman and a young girl.
A police spokesman confirmed that officers attended the property around 5.10am on Monday.
An investigation has been launched following the incident.
The spokesman was unable to confirm the amount of cannabis that was found in the property at the time, but said a quantity of the Class B drug had been discovered at the address.
The spokesman added: “The investigation is in its very early stages.”
Firefighters with a hose reel put out the blaze, and left the scene at about 7.15am.
Firefighters from Doncaster and Edlington station attended the incident.
No-one was injured in the blaze and it is unclear if the incident was a targeted arson attack.
Police and fire investigations are continuing to establish the cause of the blaze and the circumstances surrounding the cannabis found at the property.
A spokesman for South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue added: “The cause has been logged as deliberate. No -one was injured.”
