£16m Doncaster link road plan which will create 7,000 new jobs and 3,000 new homes moves step closer
A £16m Doncaster motorway link road which could create 7,000 new jobs and 3,000 new homes has moved a step closer.
The major regeneration scheme for Hatfield, Stainforth and Dunscroft is progressing after Doncaster Council's Cabinet agreed to enter a funding agreement with the Sheffield City Region to support the DN7 Hatfield Link Road scheme.
The scheme will create a new road between the M18 at Junction 5 to Waggons Way, next to Hatfield Colliery.
The route will enable the J5M18 Unity project, a private sector led development by the Marcol Waystone partnership, to start construction later this year.
The project will see land near Stainforth, Hatfield and Dunscroft opened up for development, triggering potential investment of £800million, 7,000 jobs and 3,100 homes being built.
The total cost of the project is about £15.9million - with Sheffield City Region Investment Fund contributing nearly £11.2million. £3.5million coming from the developer and approaching £1.3million from the council’s capital programme.
Mayor of Doncaster Ros Jones, said: “The decision made today is another milestone for the DN7 Unity scheme which is set to unlock substantial inward investment, stimulate economic growth and deliver jobs across the borough and the wider Sheffield City Region.
“This is just another example of the numerous major projects we are securing which are transforming Doncaster into a great place to live, work, invest in and visit.”
Sir Nigel Knowles, Chair of the Sheffield City Region Local Enterprise Partnership, said: “The Sheffield City Region Investment Fund (SCRIF) is our major capital programme which enables local leaders to work together to leverage private and public sector investment more effectively.
Local leaders have a very robust approach to prioritising and selecting the highest standard of programmes for funding. This ensures that every pound invested maximises economic growth, boosts businesses and creates more and better jobs. This is helping us to build a truly competitive centre of business excellence.”
