Appeal after brick attack on local train

BRITISH Transport Police is appealing for witnesses after yobs threw bricks at a train near to Wombwell station.

The incident happened on Monday, July 9, at about 6.35pm when a Sheffield bound train passed under a bridge on route to Wombwell station.

Pc Ewan Brechin, the investigating officer, said: “The impact of the bricks, which we believe were thrown from the bridge, caused damage to several windows of the Northern Rail train.

“We are currently carrying out local enquiries, including identifying forensic opportunities and speaking with witnesses. We are also asking for anyone with any information about the incident to come forward as you may be able to assist our investigation.”

He added: “This was an extremely foolish and dangerous act, which resulted in a train being damaged.

“We urge those who think that throwing objects at trains is fun to think about the consequences of their actions.

“We would like to speak to anyone who was in or around the area to contact us if they saw anything suspicious, or if they have any information that could help us with our enquiries.”

Information should be passed to British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40 quoting B4/NEA of 16/07/12.
