Work has begun to build almost 900 new homes in Bessacarr.

The major new housing development will be built on a new 100 acre site.

It will feature properties by Persimmon Homes and sister brand, Charles Church, with prices starting from £134,999.

The developer is expecting to hand over the keys to its first residents in June 2015.

Kevin Thubron, sales director at Persimmon Homes Yorkshire said: “We are not only bringing much-needed new homes to the region but will create new job opportunities as, over the coming years, the development will also feature a village centre with shops, school and retirement accommodation.

“We are encouraging prospective customers who are prepared to buy off-plan, before a single brick has been laid, to get in touch to land the best deals.”

A partnership between the housebuilder and the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust (YWT) will see the Trust take responsibility for the existing ancient woodlands on the site, as well as managing new green spaces.

The YWT will help to restore the living woodland landscapes and develop the areas to the standard of a high quality nature reserve.

The Charles Church showhome is expected to open later this month with the Persimmon Homes showhome due to be launched in April.
