RESIDENTS are taking the chance to spot wildlife on the waterways by jumping aboard boat trips organised by Swinton Lock Activity Centre.
Groups of up to 12 people can climb aboard ‘Swinton Spirit’ for voyages along the South Yorkshire Navigation Canal and River Don.
Members of Carr and District Women’s Institute enjoyed one of the trips last week.
Centre manager Ruth Midgeley said: “It is a great way to look at the area from a different perspective.
“At this time of year there is a lot of wildlife along the waterways, including baby ducks and swans.
“Everyone always says what nice a time they have so please come and visit us.”
Keen photographers are encouraged to join two planned trips on July 21 and 28 for action-packed days of wildlife photography.
Snapper Ken Fisher is to lead the excursions, which are £49.50 each, and will be on hand to give valuable tips on how to get the best pictures.
It costs £25 an hour to rent out the boat and a trained member of staff or volunteer from the centre will accompany each trip.
Boat handling courses, which cost £8 a session, are also available aboard the centre’s training boat ‘Narroway’.
