Police have issued a warning about a thief spotted 'trying car doors' in Doncaster town centre.
The message comes from Rob Bell, a police community support officer with the Doncaster Central Neighbourhood Policing Team, who said: "The male who has been trying car doors with a view to theft from the vehicles may still be up to his tricks so please be aware, ensure no valuables are in the car and it is definitely locked.
"Ensure keys are in a secure place overnight."
He also urged holidaymakers to keep valuables out of sight in their homes before leaving for their summer breaks.
He said: "Many of you will be on holiday over the next six weeks, put valuables in your loft hidden away.
"Use timers on lights, these are available that activate lights at different times.
"A light is available online that mimics a TV and can also be set on a timer, for about £15.
"If you have trusting neighbours give them keys, your phone number and ask them to check your house regularly.
"Enjoy your hols and please be alert, think of your house as layers of security, what can you do from your garden perimeter to inside, to deter a thief, simple lighting or low hedges can be all you need to start with."
