A retailer has not yet been confirmed for the drive-through restaurant but it is expected to be fast food giant McDonald’s.

Plans were also granted for a further commercial unit on the site with no retailer currently confirmed.

Speaking in support of the scheme Councillor Mark Houlbrook said: “There is a lot of support from residents in Thorne and Moorends, it will provide investment in the area and employment opportunities.”

Mark Taylor, property director for Aldi said the supermarket alone would create around 300 construction jobs and 50 full time jobs once the store was up and running.

Mr Taylor said it was expected that the Aldi store would be open by Easter of next year with work expected to start next month.
