Members of an Isle scout group were in a spin when the Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance made a surprise visit.

The chopper swooped in to visit the 1st Isle of Axholme Baden-Powell Scout Group at Westwoodside Playing Fields on June 10.

The visit had been arranged for a number of months but was kept secret from the members of the group as there was always the possibility of the air ambulance being called out on an emergency.

A spokesperson for the scout group said: “The children were very excited when they saw the helicopter fly over but even more so when they saw it starting to land.

“Some of the children had the opportunity to sit in the rear seat and to try out the stretcher.”

The crew of Tim Taylor, pilot, John McKenzie and Jane Pattison, both paramedics, talked to the children about responding to emergencies and showed them around the helicopter which was surprisingly small inside due to all the gear.
