The DVD of Doncaster filmed sitcom Still Open All Hours has proved a hit, selling hundreds of copies since being released yesterday.

The six part series and 2013 Christmas special disc has rocketed straight into online retailer Amazon’s list of best-sellers.

The show has proved a TV hit, with viewing figures rising over the course of its airing, with nearly eight million viewers tuning in for the final epsiode.

The series, outdoor sequences for which were filmed in Doncaster in September, has proved a ratings smash, meaning that a second series is now likely to be commissioned.

The original series of Open All Hours ran between 1973 and 1985 and starred Ronnie Barker as penny pinching shopkeeper Arkwright as well as Sir David Jason as put-upon errand boy Granville.

The new series sees Jason reprising Granville, who now runs the shop, with his son Leroy.

Outdoor scenes were filmed at the Beautique hair salon on the corner of Lister Avenue and Scarth Avenue in Balby last September - the setting for the original show.
