THIS week’s Memory Lane pictures were brought in by long-time South Yorkshire Times reader Don Smith, of Mexborough.
They show the town in the middle of the last century, easily within living memory.
The photographs were taken before the building of the bypass, which led to the demolition of much of the area around the market in the 1970s.
Market Street and Oxford Road were home to two key buildings in the town – the police station, and the fire station.
Pictured is a view looking up Doncaster Road from around the area of the flyover, and we would be grateful if any of our readers can shed any light on the other photograph.
If you have any comments on the pictures here, or have any old photos you would like to share with us, do pop into our office on Mexborough High Street for a chat.
