A new war memorial is to be unveiled in Rotherham next week.

The memorial in Clifton Park is a tribute to more than 1,000 men and women from the town who served and died during World War Two.

A dedication service will take place on Wednesday, September 16, at 10am led by Canon David Bliss from Rotherham Minster.

The memorial has been created after £30,000 of public donations was collected by the Friends of Clifton Park.

Elaine Humphries, chairman of the Friends, said: “We’ve met many people who have shared some very sad and memorable stories and it was hard work to reach our fundraising target. However, it’s all been worthwhile thanks to the people of Rotherham and those who have connections with our town.”
