THIS week's pictures are centred on old Mexborough, and once more they are taken from the wall of the George and Dragon pub in Church Street, with kind permission of licensee Frank Hoyland.
The first shot is a fascinating bill for ale supplied to the G&D, by the now-defunct, but once-loved Wath brewery Whitworths.
They must have been good drinkers at the George – for the account shows a staggering 87 6s bill to then landlord I Breakwell (which an accompanying receipt shows was duly paid!).
The second picture is of Mexborough High Street, looking uphill from the Empress end. And there on the left is the offices of the old Mexborough & Swinton Times – the daddy of this newspaper! We've certainly had a few homes in the town in our time.
So has the police station, which figures in our third photograph, when it was situated on Low Road.
If you have any comments on the pictures here, or have any old photos you would like to share with us, do pop into our office on Mexborough High Street (now on the right at the top end, next to Tesco!) for a chat.
