”It’s been tough, it’s been fantastic and it’s been just okay,” she said.

“I started in estate agency by mistake, originally attending college to do my ISVA, the equivalent of RICS, which would then enable me to undertake survey work.

“I soon found out that I wasn’t cut out for this type of work but knew that I loved being in property.

“I was fortunate enough to do my training at Henry Spencer & Sons, who were one of the top estate agents of its time, working my way up from being a junior to being a regional manager.

“From then on my career progressed to the position I am now in. My father instilled into me - bricks and mortar are the best investment.

“My accountant always instilled into me – don’t sell, always keep. My husband always reminded me to keep cash...three excellent lessons.”

She continued: “I have been extremely fortunate having retained full job satisfaction which has always been my aim. Henry Spencer & Sons was one of the largest independent estate agents and I originally worked from their city centre office some 30 plus years ago with paper files and no internet.

“Now we have all the latest technology. You may ask what helped me to survive? It has been sheer determination in making the business successful. I am a great believer in ‘you get out what you put in’. I love advising and helping clients with suggestions on how to enhance the value of their property. Traditional estate agency is what keeps my business going after 34 years.

“However, you must also move with the times, be savvy and switched on keeping an eye on what is happening around all the time.

“Make sure you have a good professional team who can offer excellent customer service and satisfaction.

“It is important that your estate agent holds your hand all the way through this stressful period.

“Choosing the right agent who has good local knowledge and, of course, a solid database is absolutely essential and will maximise the potential of your sale and purchase.

“There are a lot of good and bad estate agents and it is important that you make the right decision.

“Over the last 34 years I have seen many agents spring up and disappear very quickly. For a free, no obligation valuation from a traditional estate agent you can trust or if you would like any advice on marketing your property, please do not hesitate to contact us.”
