Known by most as the Garden Club the organisation’s official name is the Isle of Axholme Horticultural Society, because of its RHS membership registration. Its chairman, Janet Canning, has been a member for 21 years.

She said she was proud to have been such a long serving standard bearer for the club, but she was by no means the mainstay as Joyce Spavin, at 91 was the oldest member and had been there almost from the outset.

She added: “The committee is very proactive. We encourage new input but the makeup stays constant, which shows how we all get on. And BBC Gardener Christine Walkden is visiting in April.”
