Feb Fest of live music

LIVE music fans can have a month long February fest – with some incredible events planned at Rawmarsh.

Celebrate music with some of the best bands from the area at a gig planned by Save our School campaigners at the Star Inn on February 18.

From 5pm the line-up will include Jesus Loves Heroin Band, Creeking Bones, Little Robots, Rawmarsh Mashers, The Rogues, Highway Child, China Town and View from S62.

Later in the month, on February 26, will be RawFusion – a full, free day of live music and arts, organised entirely by young people from Rawmarsh.

Three venues including the Star Inn, the High Street Centre and Rotherham’s Dickens’ Bar will host everything from top local bands to a tea dance and poetry recitals.

Some of South Yorkshire’s most gifted musicians will take over The Star from 2-10pm.

Recently signed band Violet May will appear along with Heebie Jeebies and Radio 1 championed DJ, Checan.

And expect the best of genres rangingfrom Dubstep to Alternative and Indie through to Electronic.

An eclectic mix of musical styles will set the scene alight at Dickens from 3-10pm, while the High Street Centre will throb and hum with mixed events.

Hip-Hop will pick up where a Tea Dance leaves off, epitomising RawFusion’s ethos as a festival for everyone. Pupils from Rawmarsh Community School will perform sketches and poetry, leading to Rawmarsh’s first poetry slam.

There’s also a chance to make YOUR voice heard at RawFusion. For the RawVoices project, anyone over 14 can join spoken word artist Joe Kriss and writer Vicky Morris at workshops on public speaking and writing. And anyone who wants to take to the stage could get the chance to do so. Contact rywriters@gmail.com for more details.

If anyone would like to help on the day as a volunteer, there are a number of roles to be taken up. Contact rawfusionfestival@yahoo.co.uk

RawFusion is supported by the Rawmarsh and Me Project in partnership with Rotherham Council.
