Brilliant bakers and confident cooks are being asked to put their cake decorating skills to the test this weekend, as Lakeside Village launches a search for Doncaster’s answer to Paul Hollywood or Mary Berry.
The outlet shopping centre is working with ProCook to host a cake decorating challenge this Saturday (19 September), inviting shoppers and passers-by to show off their skills by decorating a plain Victoria sponge cake.
All entries will then be judged by a team from Lakeside Village and ProCook, and the winner will take home a baking hamper worth more than £200.
Cheryl Sadler, centre manager at Lakeside Village, said: “The nation’s gone baking crazy thanks to programmes such as the Great British Bake-Off, so we wanted to bring a little bit of that baking fever here to Lakeside.
“We want to find Doncaster’s equivalent to Paul Hollywood or Mary Berry, and to see how creative our shoppers can get when it comes to cake decorating.”
Entrants will be provided with a cake each to decorate, as well as a range of ingredients to use, including icing and edible decorations.
Cheryl said: “To ensure it’s a fair competition, we’re providing everybody with the same tools and equipment. We can’t wait to see the results!”
The winners’ hamper, provided by ProCook, will include a six-piece bakeware set, three mixing bowls, stainless steel kitchen scales, silicone muffin moulds, silicone heart-shaped moulds and a set of three silicone utensils.
The competition will run from 11am until 3pm this Saturday, outside the ProCook store at Lakeside Village. Entrants wishing to enter can register on the day, at the stand.
Competition entrants must be over 16-years-old, but younger bakers don’t need to miss out on the fun, as Lakeside Village will be providing cupcakes and cookies for them to decorate on the day.
