The only area of Doncaster where there have been no coronavirus deaths since lockdown

Part of a former Doncaster mining village has been named as the only place in the town where there have been no recorded coronavirus deaths, according to new figures.

The Office for National Statistics has released the number of deaths by postcode area in Doncaster up until the end of July.

And according to the figures, Armthorpe North is the only place in the town where no Covid-19 deaths have been recorded from March up until the end of July.

The former mining village was split into two parts – Armthorpe North and Armthorpe South for the study, although it is not clear where the dividing line between the two districts lies in determining the figures.

There were 51,831 deaths occurring in England and Wales between 1 March and 31 July 2020 and registered by 15 August 2020 that involved COVID-19.

This represented 20.0% of all deaths occurring over this period, which was 259,199 deaths.

Taking into account the size and age structure of the population, there were 90.2 deaths involving COVID-19 per 100,000 people in England and Wales over the period March to July 2020.

For the analysis, the ONS used the term “involving COVID-19” when referring to deaths that had COVID-19 mentioned anywhere on the death certificate, whether it was the underlying cause of death or not.

The figures which divide Doncaster into 39 postcode areas, showed that Thorne has the worst rate of coronavirus deaths, with a total of 21 fatalities recorded between March and July.

Hexthorpe and Balby North and Belle Vue and Town Fields recorded 15 deaths each.
