Two Doncaster women are on a mission to get people shopping local and supporting the nearby economy

With shops reopening in the near future it has never been more important to support local independent businesses after what has been a hard year - two women are setting up a Doncaster specific business directory to help people shop local.

Natalie Smith and Harriet Rohden have started their new business named SL Guide in the beginning of 2021.

Their aim is to make it easier for people to find and support Doncaster businesses in a post pandemic world.

Harriet, 32, from Lakeside, said: “It all started when I wanted to buy a cake made by someone local.

“But I just couldn’t find a platform that would show me all my options.”

That got Harriet and Natalie thinking that they could create an online space that provided that service.

Natalie, 28, from Sprotbrough, said: “We want to replace things like Facebook recommendations and bring it back to a real local level.

“The SL in our business name stands for Shop Local because that’s something we really believe in.”

Both women said that they feel that it is really important to encourage people to shop locally when retail is allowed to reopen.

“We can’t wait to see the town centre busy again,” Natalie said.

“To see bars full and restaurants up and running.

“We’re all about celebrating Doncaster’s independence and hope our new business will help people rediscover the town.”

They are currently accumulating businesses into their directory and plan to launch the new project in May.
