Apprentice scheme success

This will bring the total number of apprentices taken on by the council to 100.

At the induction days the new apprentices will be introduced to the council and will find out a bit more about the teams they will be working with.

Although the apprenticeships are primarily aimed towards those who have just finished secondary school, there are a number of people currently in post which are over the age of 24 – a statistic which the council takes pride in as it is offering opportunities to people of all ages.

The different apprenticeships cover a wide range of areas within the council, such as Economic Development, Environmental Health, Finance, Legal and Democratic Services, Sport in Schools, IT, Commissioning Support and many more.

The scheme has an 86 per cent success rate of apprentices going into work with either the council or external companies – this includes both full-time and part-time work, and also going onto a Level three apprenticeship.

Leader of North Lincolnshire Council, Coun Liz Redfern, said “I’m a firm believer in giving young people the best opportunities they can have to help them find work and we need to do all we can to help young people now by raising aspirations and giving them more choice. However, our apprenticeship scheme isn’t just for young people – we have welcomed applications from people of all ages.

“The scheme offers people the chance to gain valuable work experience and learn new skills, which is vitally important to future employees. This year we have taken on 14 new apprentices in the beginning of September and I am looking forward to welcoming them to the council.”
