TODAY
EXHIBITION: Doncaster Museum and Art Gallery.
Some of the borough's most treasured pieces are gathered under one roof to celebrate the centenary of the Contemporary Art Society (CAS).

Drawings by Henry Moore, paintings by Maggi Hambling and Simon Patterson's iconic re-working of the London underground map, the Great Bear are all exhibited. It's free and it runs until February 21.

Barnsley Civic – A Century of Chairs.

This exhibition features a collection of over 75 classic chairs from the Design Museum collection, each of which illustrates a landmark in aesthetics, functionality, materials, production technology or sustainability.

From Michael Thornet's discovery of how to mass manufacture bentwood chairs in the late 19th Century, and Marcel Breuer's pioneering use of tubular steel at the Bauhaus in the 1920s to Charles and Ray Eames' plywood innovations in the 1940s, the pop inspired plastic chairs of Verner Paton and Joe Colombo in the 1960s and recent advances by contemporary designers, such as Jasper Morrison and the Bouroullec brothers, the chair has long been a focus of experimentation for modern designers.

The free exhibition will be held in The Gallery @ The Civic until March 12, from 10am-5pm Monday to Saturday and 10am-4pm Sunday.

THEATRE: Sheffield Lyceum – Whistle Down The Wind.

When young Swallow asks the identity of a mysterious man she finds in her family's barn, he utters the words 'Jesus Christ'.

As the rest of the townspeople hunt a fugitive, Swallow gathers the children who protect their new-found saviour from the outside world.

A powerful portrayal of love driven by the innocence of childhood, with award-winning songs and epic storytelling, Whistle Down the Wind is a mesmerising, moving theatrical sensation.

Theatre Royal Wakefield – When Harry Met Sally.

This delightful romantic comedy, adapted for the stage from one of the best romantic comedy films of all time, starring Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan.

The first time they meet they hate each other. The second time they meet, he doesn't remember her and she hates him. The third time they meet, they become friends... and they are friends for a long time.

Then they fall in love – it only takes 12 years and three months!

EXHIBITION: HIVE Gallery Elsecar Heritage Centre – Black Gold.
References the historical impact and value that coal had to Barnsley in terms of its industrial history.

Barnsley became known as the heart of the South Yorkshire coalfield.

Past generations toiled and risked their lives to pull this black rock from the ground.

As time and regeneration have covered signs of this industry it still impacts our landscape both mental and physical and we
continue to live its legacy.

This exhibition features work by 5 contemporary artists based in Barnsley; Barrie Jones, John Ledger, Patrick Murphy, Mikk Murray and Jo Pearson.

The work on show reflects their own personal relationships with the town and its history. Gallery open: Thursday - Sunday 12-4pm
COMEDY: Sheffield City Hall – Last Laugh Comedy Club.

This week's Last Laugh Comedy Club features Ivan Brackenbury, Caimh McDonnell, Stu Goldsmith and Toby Foster.

Multi-award winning, highly offensive and hilariously funny, Ivan Brackenbury is Hospital Radio's flagship presenter.

He presents his "Disease Hour" every week on Chesterfield and North Derbyshire Hospital Radio. February 5 and 6.

MONDAY
COMEDY: Barnsley Lamproom Theatre – Blackadder Goes Forth.

This is the first production of 2010 from The Lamproom Theatre Company, and is part of their Season Ticket Offer.

With plots as cunning as a fox – who has just been appointed as Professor of Cunning at Oxford University – the stage version of the hit BBC TV comedy is sure to be a winner and is a must for fans of Rowan Atkinson and Tony Robinson.

The performance rights for this production will be donated to Comic Relief. Runs until Saturday, February 13.
