When the going gets tough

A SPONSORED walk featuring beer barrels, fancy dress and even railway sleepers has been organised to raise money for Help For Heroes.

More than 100 people have so far signed up to take part in the walk between the Rock Tavern in Kilnhurst to the Saracens Head in Wath.

The journey is little more than a couple of miles, but it may prove a challenge for organiser Phil Bailey and his railway co-workers. They will be hauling four heavy railway sleepers along with them.

Said Phil: “It will definitely be a challenge, but we’re looking forward to it.

“We want to do something different, to try and encourage people to sponsor us.

Other groups taking part in the challenge wil be in fancy dress, will be carrying beer barrels.

Phil said: “We chose Help For Heroes because we know a couple of lads in the army who have been out to Afghanistan.

“They are out overseas to help protect us at the end of the day, so we are happy to be supporting the charity.”

The walk will set off from the Rock Tavern on Saturday, April 2, at 1pm. The fun will continue with raffles and sponsored head shaving and waxing. Anyone interested can contact Saracens landlady Bonita.
