TALENTED young chefs are preparing to wow the judges at an annual cooking competition taking place in July.

The Mexborough Rotary Young Chef Competition will see six of the area’s top secondary school age cooks do battle in the kitchen.

They will be asked to prepare, cook and serve a two course, healthy meal for two people, within a budget of £5, at Dearne Valley College’s Rockingham Centre in Wath.

Judging the event, on Tuesday, July 12, will be the college Principal and Chief Executive, Paul Townsley, and two local head chefs.

The winner will go to the regional final where the contestants will be required to prepare, cook and serve a three course meal within a budget of £15.

Bob Cusack, Catering and Hospitality Tutor at Dearne Valley College, said: “This is the fifth year we have been involved with this event.

“It’s very rewarding to witness young chefs show off their talents, passion and commitment for cooking.
