AN AWARD-WINNING Wombwell brewery has started producing their milestone 50th Indian Pale Ale (IPA) beer.
Acorn Brewery’s new beer is made with the rare American Sorachi Ace hop and will be issued in May.
This rare Oregon-grown Sorachi Ace variety is featured as part of a second display of American hops for the 2011 series.
Joining Acorn last Thursday to begin brewing was Barnsley-born leading beer writer Pete Brown, who has written several books on beer.
One of his most notable works was 2009’s Hops & Glory, which tells the story of the long sea voyage to India that the famous beer undertook in the 19th century.
Acorn brewer Dave Hughes said: “It is a significant milestone and when we first started brewing the IPA four years ago we never thought we would be now brewing the 50th.
“It always proves popular with customers in the free trade and at the many beer festivals we attend.
The IPA ales have helped to boost sales for Acorn since brewing began in 2007.
The beers have showcased hops from the UK, USA, Europe and New Zealand.
