Two top DJs are set to get horse racing fans in a spin when they take to the decks at Doncaster Racecourse.
Former BBC Radio 1 DJs Jo Whiley – who now hosts a show on Radio 2 – and Family Fortuners presenter Vernon Kay are to perform live sets at Town Moor following the Unison Raceday on Saturday, August 1, as part of the DJ Live series.
The announcement comes after ska legends Madness and British reggae band UB40 were confirmed as performing as part of the racecourse’s 2015 Music Live! events.
Kieron Gallagher, racecourse executive director, said: “We’re really looking forward to hosting the first DJ Live event featuring Jo and Vernon, both popular personalities from the world of music.
“We’re really proud to have developed a reputation as a leading South Yorkshire music venue, as well as sporting venue.
“In recent years we have played host to many big name acts including Madness who we’re delighted are playing here again in June.
“The DJ Live event is set to offer something completely different to entertain crowds on a summer’s evening long after racing has finished.”
During the event, each DJ will perform a separate 90-minute set to the crowds.
An event spokesman said: “Jo has become radio royalty with a career spanning more than 20 years.
“She joined Radio 1 in 1993 presenting numerous shows before moving to Radio 2 to present her own evening show in 2011.
“Jo – named DJ of the Year at the 1998 Sony Radio Awards – is also a familiar face on TV having fronted many live music events.
“Vernon started his career as a model before landing a regular gig on Channel 4’s T4.
“He joined Radio 1 in 2006 and presented a weekly slot until he left the station in 2012. A TV regular, Vernon has hosted a variety of shows.”
Tickets for the raceday, including DJ Live, are priced from £32.50.
Madness – famous for hit singles such as House of Fun and Wings of a Dove – will perform at Doncaster Racecourse after racing is finished on Saturday, June 27.
The band said: “Come see the world’s strongest band perform incredible feats live.
“Marvel as Madness lift an enormous set of polished pop songs high in the air.”
It is the third time Madness have performed at the venue in recent years, following shows in 2008 and 2012.
And UB40 – behind such hits as Red Red Wine and (I Can’t Help) Falling in Love With You – are set to perform after racing on Ladbrokes Derby Day, Saturday, June 6.
More acts are set to be announced for the venue’s 2015 Music Live! dates, with concerts planned after racing on Saturday, May 16, and Saturday, August, 15.
A racecourse spokesman said: “Our Music Live! Racedays are the not-be-missed events of the summer.
“Soak up the thrilling racing atmosphere with a full programme, before dancing into the evening in front of your favourite big-name acts on our huge concert stage.”
