It is a clash of cultures that brings together the traditional and the contemporary… and it comes to Cast in Doncaster later this month.

Fresh from their sell out shows and five-star reviews at Edinburgh Fringe and Glastonbury, BBC Radio 2 award-winning folk powerhouse The Demon Barbers perform their newly developed extravaganza, The Lock In, at Cast for one night only on February 21.

Some of the UK’s oldest forms of dance are brought bang up to date as they collide with some of the youngest in an exciting new dance show that promises to do for English folk dance what Riverdance did for Irish dance and Diversity did for street dance!

The show, the brainchild of The Demon Barbers, sees a group of street dancers arrive at an apparently deserted pub.

Local rumour has it that The Fighting Cocks is the place to be ‘after hours’ but as the regulars arrive a clash of cultures turns into a dance floor stand-off.

The skill, speed and athleticism of the dancers on both sides soon wins the others over as the old and new are brought together in an exciting and dynamic dance-off.

Sword dances are performed with snooker-cues, pub bouncers dance the Morris and B-boys flirt with clog girls.

Meanwhile house band The Demon Barbers takes English Folk music on a new journey with friends Hip Hop, House, Funk and Ska and even says hello to Burlesque and Drum & Bass along the way!

Originally performed as Time Gentlemen Please! – which launched The Demon Barbers’ radical fusion of English Folk and Hip Hop dance in 2011 - the cast has been working with director Michael Vale to develop the show further with the help of the Arts Council England’s Strategic Touring Grant.

After an intensive three month rehearsal period the show was re-launched in Autumn 2012, thrilling audiences with its high energy, acrobatic and maverick performances, culminating in three nights at the Glastonbury Festival and two weeks at the world renowned Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2013.

Fast-paced and innovative, the show brings together some of the UK’s top clog, sword and Morris dancers with their counterparts from the worlds of B-boying, popping and krump.

The Lock In is at Cast, Doncaster on Friday February 21, 7.30pm. Tickets are £16.50 / £14.50 concessions or £13.50* for dance groups and are available from Doncaster Ticket Office on 01302 303 959 or
