PUBGOERS in Mexborough are being encouraged to pull on their hiking boots on Sunday, to join a sponsored walk to raise money for a children’s charity.

The trek will start from The Old Market Hall from 9am and will go in a circular route through Conisbrough, Hooton Roberts, Ravenfield, Thrybergh and Kilnhurst, before heading back to Mexborough.

Before hikers set off on the 15-mile route, free butties and hot drinks will be given out in the pub.

On the group’s return for a well-earned rest, meals will be offered at half price.

This will be the second sponsored walk, after last year’s event raised more than £2,000 for the children’s cancer charity CLIC Sargent.

Pub shift manager Michael Stead said: “We raised a lot of money last year for a great charity and if we could raise even more, that would be a great achievement.

“There were about 30 of us last year and we all had a great time.

“There are about 10 people who have put their names down so far and I would like to encourage as many people as possible to take part.

“Last time we wore special t-shirts on the walk, but if people want to wear fancy dress this time they are welcome to do so.”

Sponsorship forms are available in the pub.
