Fans of big band music are in for a treat as one of the people who helped make the music a phenomenon get’s set to play on stage in Rotherham.
Tony Bennett’s trombonist, Michael Innes, will appearing in The Big Band show at the Rotherham Civic Theatre on Thursday October 24, 7.30pm.
Joining him on stage will be hometown musician, Richard Keates, who will be returning to his Rotherham with his double bass to bring the show to life alongside the rest of the band.
Bandleader Chris Smith, who also sings, plays trumpet and piano and is well known in the Jazz world for his arrangements and compositions which are frequently played on Jazz FM and BBC Radio’s Big Band Special.
His varied career includes performances on Top of the Pops, Breakfast TV with Glenn Miller’s brother, Herb, and a solo performance on the Michael Cain film “Silver Bears”.
Chris Said: “It’s great that there’s a strong resurgence in Jazz and Swing music enjoyed by all generations, mainly thanks to artists such as Robbie Williams Jamie Cullam and Michael Buble. We’re looking forward to bringing the show to Rotherham.”
