A tasty refreshing cuppa is being offered by The Tea Room Number 1 in Epworth as part of this week’s link with Epworth Bells.
The pleasant corner cafe in High Street was taken over just over 12 months ago by Joyce Brightmore, who has set about transforming it into the place to be for a friendly tea or coffee and a chat for customers of all ages.
Joyce (pictured) has spent her entire working life in the food industry and is hoping the community responds to her generous offer.
The cafe has always been a fixture in the town and after Joyce took over in October she set about transforming the menu with a range of her own homemade mouth-watering treats.
The former quality assurance manager for a number of food companies said her new venture had even introduced free Wi-Fi to entice customers.
She added: “I have worked in the food industry for many years – in fact ever since the age of 15. I lived in Epworth for a long time before moving to Owston Ferry and decided that opening a cafe in the town was something I really wanted to do to.
“Since we opened in October 2013 we have worked really hard to build up the business and people have responded to my introduction of homemade cakes, biscuits and other tasty treats.
“As a big thank you to my customers I have decided to offer a free tea or coffee to anyone who buys something to eat.”
Since taking over Joyce has increased the opening hours of the cafe from Tuesday through to Sunday. She aims to cater for all ages and tastes and passing trade including walkers and cyclists, and her increased menu choice now includes home-made soup and cakes and her own gluten free food choices. Other choices include full English breakfast at £5.95, served all day, and homemade bread rolls.
Food is made fresh for the cafe each day, including meat from nearby Parkin Butchers, and she believes the hard work she puts in is well worth it.
She further added: “I am always trying to introduce something new. In an effort to cater for all ages I aim to introduce a Sunday pensioners menu, but people need to book. This would also be a social event for older people. In addition the cafe is open for people to hold small meetings. For both of these events call 01427 238303.
“Everyone is welcome.”
