A SPONSORED walk, featuring beer barrels, fancy dress and even railway sleepers, is due to take place this weekend to raise money for Help For Heroes!

More than 300 people are expected to take part in the walk between the Rock Tavern in Kilnhurst and the Saracens Head in Wath, on Saturday, April 2.

The journey is little more than two miles, but it will prove a challenge for organiser Phil Bailey and his railway co-workers.

For they will be hauling four heavy railway sleepers along with them!

Phil said: “It will definitely be a challenge, but we’re looking forward to it.

“We want to do something different, to try and encourage people to sponsor us.”

Other groups taking part in the challenge will be in fancy dress, while others have promised to haul beer barrels throughout the journey.

Bonita Hoey, landlady of the Saracens Head, said: “Everybody who comes into the pub has been saying how much they are looking forward to it.

“The number of people who have come forward to take part is amazing, and I’m hoping it will be something that no-one has seen before.

“We have got about £1,000 in donations so far, but we haven’t even counted up all the sponsorship yet.

“When we do I think it will be about £3000, which is an amazing total.”

The walk is expected to start from the Rock Tavern at 1pm and the fun will continue when they reach the Saracens Head, with raffles and sponsored head shaving and waxing all planned.
