THE New Year rolled in well at Wombwell’s Anglers Rest pub – as it netted the title of Barnsley’s CAMRA Winter Pub of the Season!
The welcoming pet-friendly Park Street pub, complete with wood-burning stove, has been transformed over two years by licensee Simone Foster-Jowett, who described her latest accolade as “really good news”.
Her hostelry is a “great community local” with a homely feel, said CAMRA judges, who added: “Simone has worked tirelessly.
“She introduced up to three local cask ales alongside the permanent Black Sheep Bitter – with local ales often sourced from the nearby Acorn and Concertina breweries – and she offers a traditional draught cider.”
A swear jar on the bar boosts the Help for Heroes charity, with a charity sale planned for January 15 from 10am. And a local produce shop is on the way.
A presentation and fundraiser with special guests will take place at the pub on February 18.
