IT IS full steam ahead for train buffs this weekend as a huge railway modelling exhibition rolls into town.

Enthusiasts young and old are expected to be out in force for the two day Festival of British Railway Modelling at Doncaster Racecourse.

The annual spectacular has become a huge hit with modelling fans and organisers are hoping for another bumper crowd this year.

A spokesman said: “Doncaster’s tradition with railways provides a brilliant venue for this first-rate modelling event.

“There will be more than 30 top-quality layouts in a variety of gauges, more than 80 exhibitors and some new features for 2013.

“The show is a must for all modellers new or experienced.”

The layouts will showcase everything from the golden age of steam up to the modern day.

There will also be a chance for modellers to get their hands on rare and unusual items, with a range of exhibitors stocking everything for model railway enthusiasts, while there will also be an interactive area - the BRM Village.

In the village, visitors will be able to take a look at new products, as well as ask questions and pick up tips and advice from fellow enthusiasts.

For younger visitors, there will be a children’s area where youngsters can enjoy interactive activities including a colouring competition and an observation competition with prizes on offer.

Children can also have a go at driving a train on one of the exhibition’s two children’s layouts - the ‘Thomas passenger and goods’ and ‘Virgin Trains Pendolino’.

There will also be demonstrations, clubs and societies, workshops and more across Saturday and Sunday.

Tickets on the day are £8 for adults and £3.50 for children, with family tickets priced at £23.

The show will be open from 10am to 5pm on Saturday and 10am to 4.30pm on Sunday. Pre-booked visitors can enter the show from 9.30am.
