Mexborough choir goes back to 1914 for wartime programme

Mexborough Male Voice Choir are making a return visit to a historic village church next week for a concert commemorating the 100th anniversary of the start of the First World War.

St Peter’s Church at Letwell will echo to the music of the Great War on Friday, May 2, with the 30 strong choir performing some of the classic songs of the time - from Pack Up Your Troubles In Your Old Kit Bag to Keep The Home Fires Burning and It’s A Long Way to Tipperary.

A variety of old favourites will also feature in the programme with solo performances from leading tenor Keith Senior and baritone Jim Smith.

The event at the 14th Century church will be hosted by the choir’s musical director Mark Rotchell, with Elizabeth Cooke accompanying on piano.
