Isle charity TeamVerrico has announced the star who will headline its official launch ball this summer as Tom Kimmel.
American singer-songwriter Kimmel was one of the late Anna Verrico’s favourite musicians, and he will take time out from touring Ireland to come and attend the TeamVerrico ball.
He will be supported by local band Rita Payne, who recently released their second album, with some classical and jazz music from young composer and pianist Sam Young.
The official launch as a charity will take place on July 19 at the Baths Hall in Scunthorpe, and tickets are on sale now at www.teamverrico.org/tickets.
Over 400 supporters will be welcomed to the fundraising evening that will boast live music and fine food.
Phil Crosbie and Anna Lundy are to host the ball that will include a three-course meal, fizz reception, a raffle and an auction.
All proceeds from the event will go towards furthering TeamVerrico’s aims to raise money to fund research in to cancers.
This will be with particular emphasis on the triple negative breast cancer suffered by young Epworth mum Anna Verrico and to provide support to those who are affected by cancer.
The charity has teamed up with a formal suit hire company who have pledged to donate ten per cent of every suit hire for the ball back to TeamVerrico. Call 01724 711605 for details.
Paul Verrico said he was delighted with the initial response to the event, that has 50 tables. He Tweeted: “We expected sales of single seats. People are just buying whole tables!”
Speaking of his hopes for the launch evening, Paul said: “This is, essentially, the pinnacle of a lot of hard work which Anna herself initially spearheaded. When she first start chemotherapy in January 2013, she resolved to help others – and with the help of her friends raised £20,000 for a project in Sheffield to research treatment for terminal cancers. Given her untimely death, setting up a charity in her memory and focusing the energies and goodwill of her family, friends and well wishers into a positive movement seems the right thing to do. We really hope that people leave the evening with a real sense of what we are about, after having had a great time with top entertainers.”
Tom Kimmel became friends with Anna Verrico in 2008 after she attended a gig in the UK. He subsequently wrote a song ‘Anna’ for her to help her fight her cancer.
Dozens of Tom’s compositions have been recorded by major artists including Linda Ronstadt, Johnny Cash, Joe Cocker, Shawn Colvin and Randy Travis. He has released seven solo albums, published a book of poems and led song-writing workshops across Europe.
