WALE MEET AGAIN
GWYN Wale will make his sensational return to the ring this September a new man after the birth of his son.
And the 25-year-old is set to wipe the slate clean and start his career all over again as he bids to fulfil the potential he showed as a fresh faced 18-year-old.
The explosive Brampton light welterweight became disillusioned with the sport and walked away in 2006 at the age of just 21.
Now married and with three month old son Marci - named after ring legend Rocky Marciano - in tow, Wale is fully focused on achieving big things in the ring, starting all over again at Rotherham's Magna Centre on September 19.
And his father and trainer Mick Wale believes with the right approach there will be no stopping the powerhouse.
The senior Wale said: "Gwyn has settled down a lot recently with the birth of his lad and it means he's more focused now than he's ever been.
"And he's as powerful as he's ever been but he's more eager to show his technical ability now and that will serve him really well.
"People forget that he represented England and won national titles as an amateur. You don't get to that level by just being a brawler."
Wale has signed with Rotherham based manger/promoter Dave Coldwell who guided younger brother Josh through the early stages of his career.
And father Mick believes mirroring the career progression of Josh will be the best approach with Gwyn.
He said: "Gwyn was only 18 when he turned pro and he was thrown in at the deep end.
"He signed with a big promoter straight away, was on TV from the start and wasn't easily matched so he was cutting his teeth at a high level.
"I think that was one of the biggest reasons behind him becoming so disillusioned at a young age.
"We learned from that and applied it with Josh, taking it steady from the off and getting that gradual progression.
"That's what we're going to do now with Gwyn. He'll start off steady but I believe within two years he'll be up and around the British title level.
"Looking at the British champion Lenny Daws, I know Gwyn could beat him. It's just about getting that sharpness back for now and seeing how things go."
Wale's return adds another big name to the burgeoning stable of fighters Mick Wale heads in the basement of Wombwell Working Men's Club.
Wombwell's Neil Beevers will look to continue the unbeaten start to his career at Magna while Stairfoot fighter Matthew Mallin will make his debut.
