Town clinch derby clash
YORKSHIRE COUNTY PREMIER DIVISION DONCASTER Town earned the derby day spoils and gave their title bid a much needed shot in the arm as they beat Barnsley by five wickets at Town Field.
Team performances have characterised Town successes so far this season, but victory over Barnsley was down to some good individual performances. Home-grown talent Andrew Parkin-Coates hit an unbeaten 102 and Alex Gosney was similarly not out for 53, to underpin their innings.
Barnsley had batted first and totalled 205-8 with Simon Widdup – a former Doncaster stalwart – scoring 66, Alex Morris adding 38 and Greig Batty 33.
The pick of Doncaster's bowlers was Ashley Knowles with 3-21 while Luke Townsend took 2-52. In reply, Doncaster reached a winning 207-5 in the 50th over. Joe Ellis had taken a good 4-35 for Barnsley but it was not enough to avoid defeat.
Rotherham Town suffered a bruising defeat to fellow strugglers Driffield Town after being dismissed entirely inside 30 overs.
Only Tim Staveley reached double figures for Town and he can be happy with his unbeaten 28 though he was forced to witness the horror show at the other end.
Both Steve Patterson and Ollie Ezard for Driffield took four wickets, while in reply they wasted no time in securing the victory, reaching 66-1 after just 10.1 overs.
This Saturday, Rotherham play host to Sheffield Collegiate in another league clash, Doncaster travel to Castleford while Barnsley entertain Sheffield United at Shaw Lane.
