Skipper on his way out

THE promotion play–off campaign will be the last time skipper Joe Bedford is seen in a Titans shirt after he agreed to part company with the club.

Bedford and the Titans failed to come to an agreement on a deal within the club’s strict budget and the scrum half will depart at the end of the play offs.

Also heading out will be Jonny Hepworth, who had agreed to return to rugby league with Featherstone Rovers.

Their pair’s bid to go out with a bang at Clifton Lane suffered a blow as Rotherham suffered a second half collapse to fall to a heavy 58-15 defeat to Bedford Blues.

Tries from Matt Rhodes and Juan Pablo Socino, who kicked a conversion and a penalty, helped give the Titans a 15-12 lead with a few minutes of the second half gone.

But Bedford ran in six second half tries to add to the two they scored in the first period, securing a big win which gives their points difference a big boost.

Rotherham must regroup ahead of the trip to local rivals Doncaster Knights on Saturday if they are going to have any chance of progressing from Pool B.

While Bedford and Hepworth have decided to leave the club, six other current players have elected to commit their futures.

Highly rated front row duo Rob O’Donnell and Ben Harris will be looked upon as key forwards next season after signing up.

O’Donnell in particular has been earmarked as having genuine Premiership potential and holding onto him was a major priority for Titans head coach Andre Bester.

Dan Baines, Sean Dougall, Cliffie Hodgson and Matt Rhodes have all extended their spells.

Rhodes is expected to be given plenty of time to impress next season.
