Wath-on-dearne, fresh from their enforced lay-off due to the weather, made a hesitant start to their match against Pontefract.

But they eventually found their feet and ran out 47-27 winners, consolidating their third place standing in Yorkshire Division One.

Wath scored two first-half tries to go 10-0 up but then Pontefract battled back, and went ahead with two tries.

Wath soon regained control after the turn-round, however, and ran in five more tries to seal the ponts.

Simon Lines scored two tries to help Wath to the win.

Barnsley scored four tries in a much-improved performance as they beat North Ribblesdale 22-16 at home on Saturday.

After suffering a number of missing players through injury in the run up to Christmas, Barnsley used the break to reinforce their squad and had a number of new signings on display.

It was Ribblesdale who had the upper hand early on as Steve Moon scored after just four minutes to give his side the lead. Two minutes later, Rob Davidson kicked a penalty to stretch the visitors’ lead to 8-0.

Barnsley struck their first blow on ten minutes with David Reed crossing the line, and then Barnsley took the lead through a fine try from Joe Taylor.

Jordan Wood drove home the advantage for Barnsley and a great run and try from Andrew Appleyard made it 22-11. By the time Davidson crashed over two minutes from time, the result was already a formality.

Doncaster Phoenix stretched their lead in Yorkshire Two when they trounced bottom placedCastleford 55-11 in their match at Castle Park.

Phoenix ran in nine tries to one, with full-back Craig Deakin notching a personal hat-trick and Ryan Peacey touching down twice.

Rotherham Phoenix slipped behind their rivals when they were edged out 13-8 by Burley.
