ON BOARD: Leeds Carnegie back row Ryan Burrows has been named the new head coach of Wath for next season.

RYAN Burrows has been named the new head coach of Wath as they prepare to climb to the pinnacle of the Yorkshire Leagues for the first time in ten years.

The Leeds Carnegie back row was assistant last year but will assume a deeper role at Moor Road as the demands on the team increase.

Burrows made 25 appearances for Leeds in the RFU Championship last season and his experience of professional rugby was a major reason why club officials targeted him for the step up to the top role.

Two former Wath captains Lee Bird and Craig Sanderson have been appointed the club’s rugby managers, working on facility development, player deveolpment across all teams and assisting the sponsorship committee.

Another former 1st XV skipper in Ian Evans will assume a coaching role next season.

The former Wales U21 and Llanelli Scarlets player is a level three coach who has been involved at Moor Road for several years.

Adam Broadley has been named the new defence coach having previously worked with Rotherham Titans.

Other ex-Wath captains will also assume coaching roles with Dave Battersby dealing with conditioning while Steve Clegg with take charge of the Development XV in a player/coach capacity.

Lock Richard Hill and half back Joe Bartlett will be player/coaches during next season.

Hill brings experience from the national leagues to coach the Wath pack while Bartlett will train the backs.

The club will field four teams in the RFU leagues next season with a 4th XV joining South Yorkshire Merit League Two.

Wath are seeking players of any age and ability to boost their ranks.

Also the club have added U11 and U12 sides to their junior ranks for the coming season with training sessions set to take place on Friday evenings 6-7pm.
