CAPTAIN FANTASTIC: Matt Challinor has been named new Knights skipper and will lead the side out for the first time against Newcastle in pre-season.

TEN new signings will start the Knights’ first pre-season friendly at Newcastle Falcons on Saturday (1pm).

New skipper Matt Challinor will lead the Knights out for the first time since being selected to replace Chris Hallam as captain.

Brett Davey is hoping to see the fruits of a long and tough summer borne against relegated Premiership side Newcastle and has named a new look pack for the tricky test.

Tom Francis is the only player from last season among the five starters in the pack.

He will be joined by Rhys Buckley, Brian McGovern, Royce Cadman and Phil Hoy as Davey unveils his vision for a Knights side with big and physical forwards.

Dan Smith will make his first appearance since switching from second row to wing while speedy new signing Tyson Lewis will line up on the opposite wing.

Other new faces set for their first starts in Knights colours are Dante Mama, Tom Barrett, Jethro Rawling, Louis Silver and Sam Pailor.

Knights side to start at Newcastle: 15 Dougie Flockhart, 14 Tyson Lewis, 13 Dante Mama, 12 Tom Luke, 11 Dan Smith, 10 Tom Barrett, 9 Louis Silver, 1 Brian McGovern, 2 Rhys Buckley, 3 Tomas Francis, 4 Phil Hoy, 5 Royce Cadman, 6 Matt Challinor, 7 Jethro Rawling, 8 Sam Pailor.
