MATCH REPORT: Bristol 26 Doncaster Knights 18

JAMIE Lennard missed a last gasp drop goal attempt as the Knights came away empty handed from their Christmas trip to Bristol.

Had Lennard’s 30 metre kick been successful, it would have given the Knights a much needed losing bonus point.

Instead, Clive Griffiths’ side took nothing but a determined performance from the Memorial Ground and dropped back to the foot of the Championship with Jersey surprisingly beating Leeds.

The Knights made Bristol battle for their 9-6 half time lead.

Bristol fly-half Adrian Jarvis landed three penalties to two from his opposite number Lennard.

The hosts wasted little time increasing their half-time lead when, after scrum half Chris Hallam’s box kick went straight in touch from just outside the 22, they drove to the line with Eadie claiming the touchdown and Jarvis converting.

The Knights looked to hit back as outside centre Will Simpson picked-up the loose ball and broke through the Bristol defence but he spilled when tackled stretching for the line.

Jarvis added a penalty and then added the extras to a try out wide from wing George Watkins.

But the Knights again hit back with tries from full back Connor Braid and Chris Planchant with Lennard converting the second.
