Knights master Cambridge in home warm-up

THE Knights shut out a side for the first time in almost six years as their preparations continued in style with a 53-0 win over Cambridge.

Victory laid down an impressive marker for the Championship season ahead as they swatted aside the National One outfit with relative ease.

The only blight on a good day at Castle Park was young forward Tomas Francis’ forced withdrawal with what appeared to be a serious ankle injury.

Jethro Rawling opened the scoring after just three minutes with Jamie Lennard adding the extras and the first of six successful kicks from as many attempts.

Lennard slotted a penalty before skipper Matt Challinor pounced on a loose ball from a scrum to score.

Tom Luke followed a superb break with a well-times pass to put Michael Keating under the posts.

Cambridge did provide a stern test for the Knights’ defensive line but the hosts refused to break.

Dante Mama opened the second half scoring with a brace, the second of which was converted by Dougie Flockhart.

The Knights looked impressive in the line out throughout and David Bradford added to the scoring after a catch and drive move from one such throw.

And with seconds to go James Tincknell rounded things off to take the Knights past the half century mark.

The win was the Knights’ first washout since a 44-0 win over Waterloo in December 2006.

Brett Davey’s side are set to complete their pre-season calendar on Saturday with a trip to Gloucester.
