DONCASTER KNIGHTS: Surprise inclusions for B&I dead rubber

STARTING AGAIN: Joe Bedford will start again for the Knights as he continues his return to full fitness.

CLIVE Griffiths has named a stronger than expected squad for the final British and Irish Cup group game with Melrose.

The Knights director of rugby said he would hand fringe players the opportunity to impress in the dead rubber clash ahead of the vital relegation clash with London Scottish next week.

But a selection of fringe players will find themselves alongside first team regulars in the surprisingly weighty side.

Michael Keating will get more game time after his successful return from a long term injury as he starts at full back.

Keating was named man of the match after last week’s defeat to Nottingham.

Also continuing his return to fitness is new signing Joe Bedford who made his Knights debut last weekend following nine months out of action at previous club Newport Gwent Dragons.

Both players are expected to play a key role in the Knights’ battle against the drop.

Will Hafu and Ben Sowery both miss out through injury while Rhys Buckley continues his suspension.

Teenager Jack Bergmanus will make his second start for the club at hooker alongside Tomas Francis and Brian McGovern in the front row.

Royce Cadman, Andy Boyde and Adam Kettle will all return to the side.

Hosts Melrose have arranged back-up facilities with undersoil heating should their Greenyards ground be unplayable tomorrow.

Knights to face Melrose: Michael Keating, Dougie Flockhart, James Tincknell, Tom Luke, Tyson Lewis, Jamie Lennard, Joe Bedford, Brian McGovern, Jack Bergmanus, Tomas Francis, Dom Parsons, Royce Cadman, Andy Boyde, Adam Kettle, Sam Pailor.

Replacements: Ali Thomson, Jerry Cronin, Matt Challinor, Chris Planchant, David Bradford, Chris Hallam, Connor Braid.
