Davey departs Doncaster Knights

GONE: Brett Davey has left Doncaster Knights.

GONE: Brett Davey has left Doncaster Knights.

BRETT Davey has left Doncaster Knights, the club has confirmed.

Davey has spent the past month considering his future following the appointment of Clive Griffiths as director of professional rugby.

Griffiths was brought in above Davey in the coaching hierarchy as the club sought to boost the battle against relegation from the Championships.

Davey’s decision ends a three and a half year relationship with the Knights.

Lynn Howells appointed Davey as a coach with a view to him eventually taking the reigns, which he did at the start of the 2011/12 season.

The Welshman’s first season in charge saw the Knights initially competing at the top end of the Championship before a dramatic decline.

The Knights failed to win for 17 straight games, starting in January and ending with this season’s British and Irish Cup victory at Nottingham in October.

Knights chairman Tony De Mulder thanked Davey for his contribution to the club and wished him well in his future endeavours.

And Davey wished the club every success in the future and thanked all at Castle Park for their support.
