Dante Mama signs on for Doncaster Knights

DONCASTER Knights’ boss Brett Davey has signed his third centre for the 2012/13 Championship season.

Leicester Tigers’ Dante Mama has put pen to paper on a dea and will link-up with former team-mate Will Simpson at Castle Park.

The 22-year-old has followed a similar path in the English game as Simpson, graduating through the Loughborough Students system, whilst playing for Tigers’ development side.

The promising utility back - he is also comfortable at full-back and wing, represented Zimbabwe at U18 and U20 level, but believes joining Knights is his biggest challenge so far.

“I am really looking forward to the challenge at Doncaster and will be working hard to cement the outside-centre jersey at an ambitious, forward-thinking club,” he said.

“I hope to play regular rugby next season and bring what I have learned at Leicester Tigers to the Knights’ squad.

“I’m keen to develop my whole game under Brett and pride myself on the mental, physical and fitness sides of rugby.”

The Zimbabwean-born flyer spent time on loan at Nottingham this season and played two matches against Knights, where he feels he can add to the attractive open game they have developed.

“Loughborough and Leicester were very different coaching setups; firstly I was taught to throw the ball about and try expansive rugby, then coached to not make any mistakes with the Tigers by playing safer,” he said.

“But at Doncaster it seems it is the best of both worlds as Brett believes in a generous medium.

“Brett has really impressed me and encourages the backs to play with freedom and not be scared to make mistakes in training.

“I enjoy his philosophy and look forward to playing for the club next season.”
