Rotherham Titans, fourth in the Championship and all but mathematically certain of a place in the promotion play-offs, train today at Abbeydale to familiarise themselves with the Sheffield ground prior to tomorrow’s contest against London Scottish, the final league game of the season.

Titans coach Lee Blackett has made eight changes to the side which beat Nottingham with two purposes in mind: to rotate players to give them an opportunity to push for a place in the squad which will take on either Bristol or Worcester in the play-offs and, importantly, to avoid the risk of injury to some major players.

“I believe this side is the best available to get the result we need to cement our place in the play-offs. We have a lot of hungry boys who are dying to wear the shirt and several who came on and did so well against Nottingham are starting against London Scottish,” he said.

“We are disappointed not to be at Clifton Lane, but playing at Abbeydale is something we are used to and the boys like a change.

“It’s definitely a challenge and something we are looking forward to. London Scottish started the season well and I knew then they’d be in the top three.”

In the absence of the injured fly-half James McKinney, Tom Barrett has another chance to continue the match-winning form he revealed against Nottingham a week ago when he scored 16 points.

“These are exciting times for Tom because he’s now the number one fly-half and it’s a great opportunity for him,” Blackett said.

Titans: Scanlon, Broadley, Hayes, Cooke, Dowsett, Barrett, Davies, Williams, Cruse, Thiede, Parker, Maddison, Morris, Birch, Ryan. Replacements: Preece, Hislop, Tampin, Thomas, Argyle, White, Rath.
