Doncaster Dons promotion is confirmed

DONCASTER Rugby League Club will be playing in the Championship next season for the first time since being relegated in 2009.

Rochdale Hornets, the only team outside the top-four who could have overtaken the second-placed club, were beaten 31-12 by fourth-placed Whitehaven at Spotland yesterday.

To overtake Dons they would have had to win all their remaining five games while the Dons lost their last four by more than 12 points.

Tony Miller’s men, who visit Whitehaven on Sunday, can now concentrate all their efforts on trying to win the Championship One title.

They are involved in a three-way battle along with leaders Barrow (two points clear) and third-placed Workington Town.

“Promotion was our goal at the start of the season,” said a delighted Miller.
