DONCASTER DONS: Lucas Walshaw set for debut at Oldham

NEW dual-registered signing Lucas Walshaw is set to make his debut for Doncaster in Sunday’s Championship One game at Oldham.

The 6ft 5ins Wakefield Trinity Wildcats prospect, who can play both back-row and centre, wasn’t involved at Whitehaven on Sunday: “I didn’t think he was ready but he’s trained for the last week or so with us and he looks good,” said Dons’ boss Tony Miller. Loose-forward Grant Edwards could also feature in Sunday’s game. Edwards hasn’t played since suffering a bad knee injury in May, but has been back in full training for the last month or so and is champing at the bit to play.

“I’ll make a decision on Grant at tonight’s training session,” said Miller.

Miller will also be checking on strong-running prop Dean O’Loughlin, who has been having treatment this week for a neck injury sustained in Sunday’s 25-18 defeat at Whitehaven.

That defeat, the club’s third in as many games in Cumbria this season, dealt a crushing blow to the club’s title prospects.

“Obviously everyone was disappointed because it was a game that we could have won had we been more clinical in the first 30 minutes,” said Miller. “But there has been a good team spirit at the club all season and that hasn’t changed this week. We’ve worked hard in training addressing a couple of defensive things.

“We’ve also spoken about the fact that people need to know their roles.”
