DONCASTER DONS: Grant Edwards’ battles still not over

DONCASTER Rugby League Club star Grant Edwards has won his battle to play again this season following a serious knee injury in May, but the back-rower admits that his problems aren’t over.

“The lads are playing so well that I’m finding it hard to get back into the side,” Edwards told The Star.

There were fears that Edwards could miss the rest of the season after being carried off.

“I was kind of lucky in a way that it wasn’t the knee I injured a couple of years ago,” he said. “It also wasn’t as serious and there was never any doubt that I would play again. I targeted last week’s game against Workington as my comeback game but even though I’d proved my fitness in training I couldn’t even get into the squad.

“Obviously I was disappointed, but I can’t blame coach Tony Miller for not wanting to make any unforced changes after the lads had beaten leaders Barrow the previous week. It’s going to be hard for him to make changes for Sunday’s game at Whitehaven on Sunday after the 22-6 win over Workington. But whoever plays it is going to be a tough game, it always is up in Cumbria.

“We’ve lost both our previous games up there and we know that we are going to have to play well to win at the Recreation Ground because it is never easy to win there.

“Yet it is vital that we do if we want to keep our Championship One title hopes alive.”
