DONCASTER DONS: Bitter-sweet for Dons as retiring Craig Lawton to miss final

DONCASTER booked their place in Sunday’s Championship One Grand Final at Warrington, where they will meet Barrow, with a 20-0 win over visiting Workington Town yesterday.
But they could pay a high price for failing to get through at the first attempt a week earlier.
Craig Lawton, who was playing his final home game prior to retiring at the end of the season, will miss the final after suffering a badly dislocated shoulder in the second half of yesterday’s game.
Kyle Kesik (shin) and Russ Spiers (concussion) also picked up injuries in the second half of the game which could rule them out of the game against Barrow.
“I’m gutted for Craig with it being the penultimate game before he retires,” said Dons’ boss Tony Miller.
With skipper Craig Robinson suffering a broken nose as a result of a shoulder charge that Miller felt went unpunished, the Dons had to play with only 12 men for most of the last ten minutes.
Town, who trailed 10-0 at the break, played a man short for most of the second half after loose-forward Chris Annakin was red-carded for a spear tackle.
“I thought the referee was going to put him on report but it was the right decision,” said Miller.
He added: “Although I thought we could have done a bit better with the ball - we had openings on the fringes which the half-backs didn’t spot - you’ve got to be happy to win 20-0 in a semi-final.
“Full credit to all the players for keeping their shape and structure.
“Defensively that is as good as we have played all season.”
